Those who treat fractures are orthopedic surgeons. Remember that fracture is Latin for breaks — it’s surprising how often people are not aware that bone breaks and fractures are the same thing. Those who treat osteoporosis are usually family physicians, internists, or endocrinologists, and sometimes rheumatologists — osteoporosis does not require the intervention of an orthopedic surgeon unless the weakened bone breaks.
