Andropause and Cardiovascular Disease: More Than an Epi-Phenomenon
Cenegenics Medical Institute:
Headquarters for the global leader in age management medicine
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) May 03, 2011
The expert scientific review, “Andropause and the development of cardiovascular disease: More than an epi-phenomenon,” was accepted for publication in the Journal of Geriatric Cardiology, announced Cenegenics® Medical Institute. The collaboration was performed with Dr. Ernst R. von Schwarz—professor of medicine at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. The article focuses on a concept hinged on the coexistence of two phenomena: declining male hormones and the rise of coronary artery disease.
The lay term “andropause” was created as a male counterpart to menopause. Medically, it refers to a hormone deficiency in combination with a decline of bodily function, such as physical capacity, body composition, libido, sexual function and increased risk of osteoporosis. All these conditions are linked to middle-aged symptoms—ones that go hand-in-hand with a reduction of testosterone, beginning in a man’s 40s and progressively declining from there. At the same time, early signs for metabolic de-arrangements, such as metabolic syndrome and vascular dysfunction, i.e. endothelial dysfunction, might occur among some men and develop into coronary artery disease, heart attacks and stroke.
“An epi-phenomenon would suggest two conditions occur at the same time, but have nothing to do with each other. Our article is so named because it goes beyond that. The hypothesis behind our scientific review is the likely causal relationship between low androgen levels and aging as well as its association with increased cardiovascular disease. We have seen that patients with coronary heart disease have reduced levels of testosterone and other sexual hormones, creating a viscous cycle. When we age, hormones decline and heart disease occurs—then the heart disease causes these sexual hormones to decline even further,” Schwarz said.
Whether replacement of testosterone in these men would be able to prevent the development or worsening of heart diseases, is currently unknown.
On the flip side, numerous studies on men and women with heart failure showed that if when treated with androgen therapy, they experience better functional capacity than those who aren’t undergoing the treatment.
Cenegenics says it stands committed to future collaborative studies to investigate the multi facets of the aging process. The global leader conducts research via its nonprofit Cenegenics Education and Research Foundation (CERF), which also offers a CME-accredited physician training/certification program in age management medicine.

The disease Osteoporosis is more or less centered around the old age though it can be a marked and profound problem in women post-menopause. The density of the bones minimize, giving rise to a poor bone architecture making the diseased more vulnerable to fractures. This is indeed a very dreadful disease with very less pronounced symptoms and only comes out in the open when you have a fracture.
What is post-menopausal osteoporosis?
In females, the lowering of the Estrogen levels can be a welcome to Osteoporosis. As soon as the women attains the age of menopause (40 years or earlier) the levels of the hormones starts lowering. Early Menopause Symptoms Caused by Hormone Imbalance
Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 6, 2006
ChristiaNet.com (http://www.christianet.com), the world’s largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, has just launched a directory of health related articles that include information about women’s health. Early menopause symptoms and treatment are among the women’s health topics offered. ChristiaNet’s president, Bill Cooper, reveals that ChristiaNet wants to help women understand what menopause is and what treatment options are available. “I think a lot of women are confused about menopause and hormone imbalance, especially when there are early onset symptoms,” stated Cooper. (http://www.christianet.com/menopause/)
A spokesperson for ChristiaNet explains that through extensive research in developing the health directory, ChristiaNet discovered that menopause caused by hormone imbalance in a woman is not hard to detect and finding an individual treatment plan is a fairly straightforward and effective process. “Our research found that in many cases there was a significant link to hormone imbalance,” explained ChristiaNet. “We want to encourage any woman who is experiencing what she believes to be menopause to see a doctor for a complete evaluation.”
Symptoms that are associated with early menopause include irregular monthly cycles, headaches, hair loss or thinning, weight gain, breast tenderness, and hot flashes. Symptoms can vary among individuals and can often be mistaken for other illnesses, especially when experienced in women under the age of 40. Women who are under the age of 40 and who have hormone imbalance (not producing sufficient hormones for ovulation) are generally diagnosed as having premature menopause, which is also known as premature ovarian failure (POF). Up to 4% of all women experience early menopause symptoms.
The American Pregnancy Association states that, “Premature ovarian failure is the loss of ovarian function in women under the age of 40. Women with POF do not ovulate (release an egg) each month.” The US Department of Health and Human Services also explains that early menopause symptoms can be brought about by medical procedures. “Some women may also have premature menopause because of medical treatments, such as surgery to remove ovaries, cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation to the pelvic area that damage the ovaries — although menopause does not always occur.” Women experiencing symptoms should seek treatment immediately, minimizing their risks for problematic long-term results of POF, such as osteoporosis. Like the medication called Evista Fosamax used to treat the osteoporosis in women who have attained menopause or steroid induced osteoporosis. It is a medication that can be classified into the group of drugs called bisphosphonates that are said to change the formation of bones in your body and prevent their easy breakage. This medication is said to reduce the rate at which bone loss occurs so that the bone mass is thereby increased which could possibly prevent easy fractures.
This medication is also used in the treatment of Paget’s disease. It can also be used for other things that have not been listed in the medical guide.
One very important factor to remember when you are taking Fosamax is that you should not recline or lie down for at least thirty minutes after taking the medication; you have to either sit upright or stand for half an hour failing which you could probably suffer serious problems in the esophagus. This medicine should be taken first thing in the morning with a glass of plain water and you should not chew or suck on the tablet. Do not use mineral water when taking Fosamax. Ensure that you eat something only after thirty minutes after you have taken the medication so that it will be absorbed better into your body.
When you are on treatment with Fosamax it would be good if you do consume alcohol or smoke. You may have to take calcium and vitamin D tablets if you do not get the adequate quantity in your diet. In addition to taking this medication it would do you good if you also take some weight bearing exercises to strengthen your bones.
When you are on Fosamax you could probably experience side effects like chest pain, a burning feeling in the back or in the ribs, allergic responses or heartburns. But by and large these side effects are not really very serious and may not even crop up once you have got used to the medication.
Fosamax is a well known drug and at the same time it is widely considered as the best option for most of the strange diseases that you might come along. It is always advised to buy these drugs at CanAmerica Global, as you can save a lot of time and money.
