Eon Clinics Hosts Free Educational Seminars at Milwaukee Dental Implants and Illinois Dental Implants Clinics

Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) October 14, 2011

Knowing that over 100 million Americans are missing one or more teeth, the doctors at Eon Clinics have developed monthly educational seminars that empower patients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about the best treatment option to address their individual needs. These educational events are held every month at their Milwaukee dental implants clinic in Waukesha, their Chicago dental implants clinic, and other Illinois clinics in Hoffman Estates, Lake Forest and Downers Grove.

Guests of Eon Clinics’ dental implant seminars learn the various causes of tooth loss, such as trauma, caries, dental decay, periodontal disease, lack of care due to fear of dentists, and poor genetics. The doctors who teach the seminars also discuss how replacing missing teeth can address cosmetic, functional and other issues.

“Without teeth, chewing is more difficult, and that often leads to issues with digestion and other health problems,” said Jody McCarty, Eon Clinics spokesperson. “It also affects diction, or speech, since teeth are necessary to make certain letter sounds.

“Many people don’t realize that missing teeth cause jaw bone shrinkage, which results in structural changes in the face. Our doctors explain how dental implant provide stimulation to the supporting bone and prevents bone loss.”

During the seminar, guests learn the various methods for replacing missing teeth. These include tooth-supported removable prosthetic devices (dentures) and tooth-supported fixed prosthetic devices (bridges). While both of these methods offer temporary solutions for missing teeth, they also have disadvantages.

Dentures can be painful, compromise chewing capacity and (due to jaw bone shrinkage), require constant refitting. Fixed prosthetic devices often compromise the health of adjacent teeth and, due to cement fatigue, can come loose and require repair several times throughout their lifetime. In comparison, dental implants are successful in 98% of cases and, if cared for properly, can last a lifetime.

Dental implants are made with medical grade titanium anchors, which are placed into the jawbone to replace the roots of missing teeth. The titanium “roots” provide a secure base for the support of prosthetic crowns or bridges to replace missing teeth. Dental implants can replace one, several, or even all of a person’s teeth. During the seminar, the doctors at Eon Clinics explain how they can restore a full smile in one day with their signature AII-on-4 dental implant technique.

To illustrate the full patient experience, the doctors continue the seminar with a series of case studies. The first case study involves a woman who was told by other doctors that in order to receive dental implants, she would need three surgeries over eighteen months that required a bone graft taken from her hip. She came to Eon Clinics wearing an upper denture, and was suffering from a failing bridge on her lower jaw and bone loss from periodontal disease.

This same patient learned that she was a candidate for an AII-on-4 treatment, a one day dental implant procedure that is guaranteed for life. Eon Clinics was able to replace all of her teeth using the AII-on-4 protocol without any bone grafting during a single appointment.

The second case study involves a man who was missing several teeth. He was told by other doctors that to receive dental implants, he would be in treatment for two years—as he required a sinus lift, six to eight surgeries and seventeen implants. Again, the doctors at Eon Clinics were able to use the AIl-on-4 procedure to complete his treatment in just one day. He arrived in the morning with missing teeth and left in the afternoon with a brand new, beautiful smile.

Eon Clinics is unique in offering these types of results for their patients in its “AII-in-One” center, where an oral surgeon and prosthodontist make use of 3D CT scan and dental lab equipment, all under one roof. This allows the doctors to collaborate on each case more efficiently, and it provides convenience for the patient, who no longer has to travel to multiple locations to see all the different specialists involved in a dental implant case.

Doctors at the seminar clarify what patients can expect from their procedure at Eon Clinics. After the presentation, the doctors answer audience questions. If guests are interested in learning more, they are welcomed to tour the facility and encouraged to sign up for a complimentary consultation at one of Eon Clinics’ multiple locations. This free evaluation includes the CT scan, which is normally valued at $ 750. During the complimentary consultation, each patient will meet with a Treatment Coordinator, who will answer questions about scheduling, cost, financing and insurance. The patient also meets with a doctor to go over the patient’s medical history, with specific attention to issues such as diabetes, periodontitis, smoking, and osteoporosis.

The patient will take a 3D CT scan so the doctor can evaluate the condition of the jaw bone and develop treatment plan options that can be discussed in detail. By the time a patient leaves their first appointment at Eon Clinics, they will have all the information they need to make an informed decision about a treatment plan that works for them.

To learn more or find out the next seminar date and location, visit eonclinics.com or call (800) 250-3500.

Rottenstein Law Group Commissions, Publishes Infographic to Educate Public About Fosamax History, Dangers

Fosamax Femur Fracture

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 26, 2011

The Rottenstein Law Group, which represents clients with claims of harm resulting from use of the drug Fosamax, has commissioned and published an infographic to educate the public about the history and dangers of the medication.

The infographic—viewable at http://www.fosamaxfemurfracturelawsuit.com/fosamax-information/ —provides very easy-to-read facts about what Fosamax is prescribed for, the most common adverse side effects of the medication, other serious side effects, the conclusions of two major studies of the drug, and a timeline of significant events in the product’s history.

Despite being the most popular osteoporosis treatment medication on the market, Fosamax has been linked to several serious side effects. In 2004, researchers found a causal connection between Fosamax and osteonecrosis of the jaw, a condition where the jawbone dies due to a lack of blood supply, as reported in the Journal of Rheumatology, among other places. More recently, people have suffered low-impact femur fractures after falling from standing height or less, as reported in Journal of Orthopedic Trauma and elsewhere. Evidence is building that taking Fosamax or similar medications for the treatment of osteoporosis causes a dramatic increase in risk of this particular kind of rare fracture to the thigh bone.

The Rottenstein Law Group urges anyone whose friend or relative has been prescribed Fosamax or another osteoporosis drug to reach out to that person and recommend that he or she consult a physician immediately and then speak to a qualified personal injury lawyer. The Rottenstein Law Group maintains a Fosamax Femur Fracture Lawsuit Information Center at http://www.fosamaxfemurfracturelawsuit.com. The site has features that allow for easy sharing, including links for automatic posting on Facebook and Twitter, specifically to enable visitors to spread the word about the dangers of Fosamax.

Andropause and Cardiovascular Disease: More Than an Epi-Phenomenon

Cenegenics Medical Institute:
Headquarters for the global leader in age management medicine

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) May 03, 2011

The expert scientific review, “Andropause and the development of cardiovascular disease: More than an epi-phenomenon,” was accepted for publication in the Journal of Geriatric Cardiology, announced Cenegenics® Medical Institute. The collaboration was performed with Dr. Ernst R. von Schwarz—professor of medicine at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. The article focuses on a concept hinged on the coexistence of two phenomena: declining male hormones and the rise of coronary artery disease.

The lay term “andropause” was created as a male counterpart to menopause. Medically, it refers to a hormone deficiency in combination with a decline of bodily function, such as physical capacity, body composition, libido, sexual function and increased risk of osteoporosis. All these conditions are linked to middle-aged symptoms—ones that go hand-in-hand with a reduction of testosterone, beginning in a man’s 40s and progressively declining from there. At the same time, early signs for metabolic de-arrangements, such as metabolic syndrome and vascular dysfunction, i.e. endothelial dysfunction, might occur among some men and develop into coronary artery disease, heart attacks and stroke.

“An epi-phenomenon would suggest two conditions occur at the same time, but have nothing to do with each other. Our article is so named because it goes beyond that. The hypothesis behind our scientific review is the likely causal relationship between low androgen levels and aging as well as its association with increased cardiovascular disease. We have seen that patients with coronary heart disease have reduced levels of testosterone and other sexual hormones, creating a viscous cycle. When we age, hormones decline and heart disease occurs—then the heart disease causes these sexual hormones to decline even further,” Schwarz said.

Whether replacement of testosterone in these men would be able to prevent the development or worsening of heart diseases, is currently unknown.

On the flip side, numerous studies on men and women with heart failure showed that if when treated with androgen therapy, they experience better functional capacity than those who aren’t undergoing the treatment.

Cenegenics says it stands committed to future collaborative studies to investigate the multi facets of the aging process. The global leader conducts research via its nonprofit Cenegenics Education and Research Foundation (CERF), which also offers a CME-accredited physician training/certification program in age management medicine.

osteoporosis prevention part 1.mp4

§ November 4th, 2011 § Filed under osteoporosis men § Tagged , , , § No Comments

Prevention of osteoporosis is a much better plan than treatment, as often treatment is too late. Many factors contribute to osteoporosis. Firstly we need to understand what naturally occurs in bone as we age. As we go through life bone is constantly being remodelled. It is absorbed and laid down constantly through our lives. As we get older the rate at which bone is absorbed occurs faster than it is laid down.Over years this can lead to weak bones, which is osteoporosis. So, two factors are important in determining whether or not we get osteoporosis. That is how strong our bones are beforebones are before they start to get weaker and then the rate at which they deteriorate. In general in later life bone density tends to reduce by 1% per annum.Women are at higher risk than men of getting osteoporosis because as they reach menopause the drop in Oestrogen results in several years of rapid bone density loss.

Hormone Replacement Therapy Provider SottoPelle Announces Merrill Osmond to Be New Spokesperson

Dr. Gino Tutera & Carol Tutera with Merrill Osmond and Wife Mary Osmond

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) June 14, 2011

SottoPelle®, a world recognized leader in the application of natural bioidentical hormones and natural hormone replacement therapy, announced today that its patient, Merrill Osmond, lead singer of “The Osmond Brothers,” has signed a multi-year agreement to be a celebrity spokesperson for the brand. “I can’t wait to use this unique and wonderful platform to tell the world about the wonders of SottoPelle,” said Osmond at a recent event hosted at SottoPelle’s North American headquarters in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The SottoPelle method for hormone replacement was scientifically created by Gino Tutera, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., who is an internationally renowned leader in the field of bioidentical (natural) hormone replacement.

“I chose SottoPelle to help me achieve hormonal balance and wellbeing because it’s safe,” said Osmond. “I would never put anything in my body that was not natural, nor would I recommend it to my wife and family if I did not believe it was the best form of hormone replacement available.

“We Osmond’s grew up in the spotlight, and now we are literally aging in front of millions of our fans,” said Osmond. “Sometimes it feels like that same spotlight we once enjoyed is now getting little too harsh to bear. Natural hormone replacement with SottoPelle is my solution to feeling balanced, rejuvenated and vital again, and I am proud to share this secret with everyone who will listen.”

SottoPelle uses tiny hormone “pellets” custom compounded using natural, plant-derived hormones that are biologically identical to the testosterone and estrogen made by the human body. Numerous studies have shown that when prescribed and administered correctly, bioidentical hormone pellets can benefit a variety of conditions—including symptoms of menopause, andropause (male menopause) depression, weight gain and osteoporosis.

“We are thrilled to have Merrill share his truly inspirational story,” said Carol Tutera, President of SottoPelle, Inc. “SottoPelle has changed countless lives for the better, and with Merrill literally, singing our praises, we know we can touch so many other people, save more marriages and help millions more people live a better, more balanced, happier life, at any age.”

Rottenstein Law Group Notes With Approval Suggestion of FDA Advisory Panel That Fosamax Carry Label Warning Recommending Regular Re-Evaluations

Rottenstein Law Group Notes With Approval Suggestion of FDA Advisory Panel That Fosamax Carry Label Warning Recommending Regular Re-Evaluations

Fosamax Femur Fracture

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 12, 2011

According to a Reuters article, two advisory panels of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday “declined to suggest how long women should take a class of drugs used by millions to prevent bone fractures, but agreed the labels should be changed to reflect uncertainty about the risks and benefits of long-term use.” The FDA had previously issued a Fosamax warning in October 2010, stating that the drug, among other bisphosphonates, causes atypical low-impact femur fractures Before that, in 2005, a warning of higher risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw had been added to labels, and in 2009, a caution about adverse gastrointestinal reactions.

The FDA, the Reuters piece reports, “had asked two of its advisory panels to recommend whether a ‘drug holiday’ or some time limit was warranted on a class of osteoporosis drugs known as bisphosphonates that have been linked to unusual thigh fractures and other side effects.” (The drugs under review include Merck & Co’s Fosamax, Warner Chilcott’s Actonel, Roche’s Boniva, and Novartis’s Reclast. This class of drugs has also been linked to osteonecrosis of the jaw, or jaw bone death, and a possible higher cancer risk.) “Instead, the advisers voted 17-6 on Friday to make changes to the labeling with many in favor of specifying how often patients need a re-evaluation of whether they need the medicine,” Reuters reported.

“Studies presented by the FDA and the industry did not paint a conclusive picture to estimate whether benefits outweigh the risks in taking bisphosphonates for longer than three to five years or how exactly each of these drugs affects various subgroups of patients, advisers said.” Accordingly, the FDA advisers voted 17-6 on Friday to make changes to bisphosphonate medication labeling, with many in favor of specifying how often patients need a re-evaluation of whether they need the medicine.

The Rottenstein Law Group urges anyone whose friend or relative has been prescribed Fosamax or another osteoporosis drug to reach out to that person and recommend that he or she consult a physician immediately and then speak to a qualified personal injury lawyer. IOC Expert Paper Targets Better Health of Young People

IOC expert paper targets better health of young people

(PRWEB) September 13, 2011

The unique document defines the health consequences of inactivity; it identifies the determinants of sports participation and drop-outs, and provides recommendations on potential solutions and global partnerships. The ultimate purpose of this scientific effort is to improve the health and fitness of young people throughout the world, thereby decreasing the morbidity and mortality deriving from non-communicable diseases.

Fighting non-communicable diseases

Obesity and physical inactivity are two of the main risk factors for non-communicable diseases, which include heart diseases, diabetes and osteoporosis. At least 2.6 million people each year die as a result of being overweight or obese, and children are also affected. It is estimated that, in 2005, at least 20 million children under the age of five were overweight. Childhood obesity is associated with a higher chance of premature death and disability in adulthood, and physical activity and sport have an important role to play in stopping this dangerous trend. The topic is currently also at the top of the agenda of the United Nations (UN) and IOC President Jacques Rogge will address the General Assembly during a dedicated summit on 19 September in New York.

Conference details

The meeting on “Health and fitness of young people through physical activity and sport”, held in January 2011 in Lausanne, was chaired by Prof. Arne Ljungqvist and coordinated by Margo Mountjoy M.D., a member of the IOC Medical Commission’s Games Group. Programme consultants included a panel of leading exercise physiologists, epidemiologists, and policy experts from around the world, attended to review the scientific literature and to produce recommendations for the promotion of sport and physical activity and the prevention of non-communicable diseases caused by inactivity.

The Role of the IOC Medical Commission

With the establishment of the World Anti-Doping Agency in 1999, the IOC Medical Commission’s role has moved from primarily handling anti-doping activities in the world of sport to taking an active role in the promotion of health through sports participation. In the framework of this objective, a series of consensus meetings has been scheduled, covering among others the following issues:

Training the Elite Child Athlete – 2005
Sexual Abuse & Harassment in Sport – 2007
Non-contact ACL Injury in the Female Athlete – 2009
The Use of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Sports Medicine – 2010
Age Determination in High-level Young Athletes – 2010

With Serious Side Effects of Osteoporosis Drugs Mounting, Health Experts at AheadoftheCurveatMidlife.com Say it’s Time Women Take Charge

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 15, 2010

Popular osteoporosis drugs- the bisphosphonates- are beginning to develop a bad track record. Incapacitating joint and muscle pain, possible links to atrial fibrillation, pending lawsuits of jaw necrosis, and now the latest – spontaneous thigh bone fracture, midlife women clearly need safer and more effective options for staving off osteoporosis. Before accepting drug treatment, the health experts at AheadoftheCurveatMidlife.com (http//:http://www.aheadofthecurveatmidlife.com) want women to know that, “Women shouldn’t fear osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is not a normal part of aging, and there is a lot that women who are otherwise relatively healthy can do to take control of their bone health well into the second half of life”. To offer women just such a safe and natural non-drug option, they created a uniquely customized bone strengthening program, Women Doing It for Themselves: 8 Steps to Building Strong Bones for Lifelong Vitality.

Co-developed with integrative healthcare practitioner Dr. Judith Valentine, Ph.D., Women Doing It for Themselves is an innovative virtual program that brings the latest in nutritional research to preventing osteoporosis and maintaining bone health well into the senior years. Combining the cutting edge science of metabolic typing with the web’s ease of personal interaction, Dr. Valentine helps women assess their needs to create an individualized food and supplement program. “While good nutrition isn’t rocket science,” she says, it’s time to lay to rest the myth that osteoporosis is a calcium deficiency disease – it is much more complex than that. There are dozens of nutrients that affect bone health, and different metabolic types need different proportions of them. Mastering the essentials of meeting your own unique needs takes more than reading a book or a one-size fits all program. It takes motivation and guidance to learn and apply lifelong diet and lifestyle changes that will stick. That’s the only approach that works.”

“There is an increasing sense that the pharmaceutical and insurance industries are running health care. Doctors are paid for a 5 minute consult and a prescription, while what’s really needed – a 2 hour wellness education in changing lifelong health with diet, exercise and lifestyle – isn’t currently reimbursable by most insurance,” says Jennifer Montgomery, pharmacist and co-founder of the website AheadoftheCurveatMidlife.com. “To make matters worse these non-drug programs are usually associated with large out-of-pocket expenses, and it is difficult for women to evaluate their effectiveness.”

With health care costs skyrocketing, and physician visits that end with an osteoporosis drug prescription the norm, AheadoftheCurveatMidlife.com wants women to have an affordable option in seeking safe and individualized solutions that succeed. The cost is $ 197. For more details, or to enroll, visit http://www.aheadofthecurveatmidlife.com or email info(at)aheadofthecurveatmidlife(dot)com
